Ruth Langsford in tears over Caroline Flack’s death as she remembers her sister

A tearful Ruth Langsford left This Morning viewers heartbroken today as she explained that people who take their own life ‘don’t believe they have a choice’.

The presenter, who was hosting the show with her husband Eamonn Holmes, was discussing Caroline Flack’s death when she became emotional.

The TV couple were speaking about the latest news headlines with Nicola Thorp and Matthew Wright when Ruth gave a little insight into the tragic situation.

Ruth announced her sister Julia Johnson’s death in June last year. An inquest later determined that she had taken her own life.

Love Island star Caroline, 40, was found dead at her London home on Saturday.

A lawyer for Caroline's family said she'd taken her own life after she had been "under huge pressure."

On the ITV daytime programme earlier today, Nicola said: “Suicide is something that happens when you do not have a choice left and it can happen like that…”

Ruth interrupted to clarify her point.

“They don’t believe they have a choice, that’s the sad thing,” she explained.

Appearing to speak about her own personal tragedy, Ruth continued: “And that’s the sad thing for people left behind because you say, so many people loved you, you did have a choice, you could have called me, you could have called mum.”

Corrie star Nicola went on to say that Caroline said she felt like a “burden” before getting upset.

“I’m sorry,” she said to Ruth, holding her hand.

It then became apparent that Ruth had been quietly shedding a few tears off camera before handing out tissues to Nicola.

Viewers were saddened by the moment.

One said: “Poor Ruth. Probably thinking of her sister.”

A second posted: “Poor Ruth, she's so brave.”

A third tweeted: “Poor Ruth, this must be so difficult  for her after losing her sister to suicide recently. I really feel for her…”

A fourth said: “Aw poor Ruth too close to home for her.”

Another added: “Oh Ruth... you can see how sore she still is.”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
