Ruth Langsford cries on Loose Women over missing mum in care home

Ruth Langsford burst into tears this afternoon on Loose Women after speaking about not being able to see her mum Joan who lives in a care home.

Ruth, 60, and the rest of the panel were speaking about the possibility of relatives being able to see their family in care homes, following the vaccine rollout.

Most of the panel were in agreement that they should be able to and Ruth spoke about her personal experience.

This Morning star Ruth praised the staff who were looking after her mum, but said they were rushed off their feet and wouldn't be able to spend lots of significant time chatting to her mum.

Ruth said that the staff didn't know their mum like her and wouldn't be able to reminisce about past family times spent with Ruth's dad or sister.

Ruth, who is married to Eamonn Holmes, said she'd seen her mum through windows and had phone calls, but hadn't physically touched her for a long time.

Ruth said: "My mum has had her first vaccine couldn't they treat me as a primary care worker and test me and as long as I don't have covid and she's had her vaccine I could physically go in and sit in her room and touch her and talk to her."

The department for social care said they would be looking into allowing care home visits in the future, but were not currently allowing them.

And as the discussion came to an end Ruth became emotional and said: "Well let's hope that's soon, because I think people really really need to see their loved ones and to touch them and to hold them."

Ruth started to cry and then shook herself off and said: "Right anyway something fluffy and nice because we don't want to upset you today."
