Ruth Langsford chokes back tears on This Morning during Caroline Flack tribute

Ruth Langsford broke down in tears earlier today as she discussed the death of TV star Caroline Flack.

A lawyer for the Flack family confirmed that the 40-year-old took her own life and was found in her London flat on Saturday.

Ruth experienced devastating heartbreak in June last year when elder sister Julia Johnson, 62, took her own life at her family home in Lingfield, Surrey.

The brave This Morning presenter admitted she was left with many questions after her sister's death as she asked what more she could have done, reports The Mirror.

While speaking to psychologist Emma Kenny, Ruth admitted it was important that Caroline's family are now provided with support to cope with their loss.

Ruth said: "This happened in my family. I remember my shock at that. It’s the questions it leaves the families.

Reeling off a list of questions family members may have, Ruth said: "I should have gone round. I should have phoned. I was going to go round. I was going to phone. Maybe I should have stayed longer."

She added: "You are left with the 'what ifs'. It's her family now that think will need so much help."

Later on in the show, Ruth became emotional when former Coronation Street star Nicola Thorp started to tear up.

Nicola hit back at those saying Caroline chose to take her own life, insisting:"It is not a choice. Suicide is something that happens when you don’t have a choice."

Stepping in, Ruth said: "When you believe you don’t have a choice. And that's the sad thing for people left behind. They say so many people loved you. You did have a choice. You could have called me, you could have called mum."

Admitting that Caroline herself had spoken about feeling like a burden, Nicola said: "I think it's worth people knowing what's going on in someone's head who suffers with mental health issues. They feel like a burden..."

Tearful Nicola, who started to choke up, then grabbed Ruth's hand as they comforted each other while husband Eamonn Holmes took over, directing viewers to helplines if they are in distress.

After regaining her composure, brave Ruth grabbed some tissues for the pair,

This Morning viewers flocked to Twitter to lend their support to brave Ruth.

One viewer said: "Poor Ruth, this must be so difficult for her after losing her sister to suicide recently. I really feel for her..."

"Poor Ruth, she's so brave," added another.

A third said: "Ruth and Nicola are really setting me off. This really is just so heavy and breaks my heart"
