Ruth Langsford Breaks Silence on Sudden Shift in Relationship With Son Amid Eamonn Holmes Split

Ruth Langsford has opened up about a funny-yet-bittersweet moment that made her realise her days as the “fun mum” were officially over. Chatting candidly on the There I’ve Said It podcast, the Loose Women presenter shared the story with the kind of honesty that plenty of parents will find painfully relatable.

Ruth, who shares her 23-year-old son Jack with ex-husband Eamonn Holmes, explained how things between them shifted without warning. “You’ll find this – when they are little, they adore you, they love you, they want to be around you all the time,” she said, reports Devon Live. “Jack and I are very close, I thought I was a really fun mum and I used to do things like sing, and I’d sing like the wrong lyrics and I’d get the name of the group wrong.”

She then gave a brilliant example that’ll ring a bell for anyone who’s ever embarrassed their kid in public. “You know like Rizzle Kicks? I’d come in and I’d go, ‘Ah, I love Twizzle Sticks, they’re great’,” she said, laughing. “Jack thought I was hilarious, right? And then we’d be in the supermarket and I would dance and he thought I was hilarious.”

But the giggles didn’t last forever. “And then suddenly, I can’t remember what age, I was in the supermarket, it came on and I was like, ‘Twizzle Sticks, Jack!’ He was literally like [squirming] ‘Mum!’” That was the turning point. “It suddenly happens and it’s like, oh, he doesn’t find me amusing anymore.”

And as for those awkward chats about sex? Forget it. “If you talk about sex, like no!” she joked.

Ruth tends to keep Jack out of the limelight – she rarely posts about him online – but she’s always spoken about him with deep pride. In an interview with Woman and Home last year, she described him as “the most delightful, caring and wonderful young man,” and when asked what she wants most in life, her answer was simple: “Happiness. Happiness for my son Jack.”

Since her split from Eamonn in May 2024, Ruth has been navigating life as a single woman again. She’s admitted it hasn’t been easy, telling Woman and Home: “So I am trying to now embrace the fact that I’m single and can make choices that are just about me.”

While she’s focused on family and self-care, Eamonn has reportedly started seeing dating counsellor Katie Alexander. Meanwhile, Ruth is keeping things quiet and grounded, true to form.
