Ruth Langsford and Eamonn almost cancelled Christmas after sister Julia's tragic death

Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have opened up about the tragic death of her sister Julia as they contemplated their first Christmas without her.

Julia was 62 when she tragically took her own life earlier this year.

Ruth and Eamonn were left devastated by the loss, with her breaking the news on social media in a tribute to her beloved sibling.

Eamonn hosted This Morning that Friday without her, with their pal Rylan Clark-Neal stepping in to offer his support. He was there to comfort Eamonn when he got emotional on camera.

The couple say this Christmas will be a bittersweet one, and that they thought about cancelling it all together.

Ruth told OK! magazine: "I’ll cry but we’ll be happy too."

Ruth and Eamonn almost cancelled their Christmas celebrations this year, thinking it would be too hard to get through without Julia.

But after a lot of thought, they decided to honour Julia by going ahead with Christmas, as she was such a big fan of the festive period.

Julia's body was discovered by her husband Paul who had been away visiting the couple's daughter in June.

After attempting to contact her multiple times whilst he was away, Mr Johnson became so concerned he cut his trip short and rushed back to their home.

She did not leave a suicide note for her family and friends.

Paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service declared Julia dead at 1.37am on June 16 this year, just two minutes after arriving at the home address.

The coroner, sitting in Woking, Surrey, ruled that Julia's death was suicide after hearing she had been suffering from depression but had been diagnosed as improving greatly by a psychiatrist.

Julia Johnson had suffered with mental health troubles for years but on her last visit to the psychiatrist - before she tragically took her own life - it was decided she was "settled" and her appointments were dropped to every six months.

After Julia's death, Ruth said: "My lovely Sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness.

"My heart is completely broken. She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever.

"As I am sure you will appreciate I need to take time to grieve with my family. Thank you for your understanding."
