Ruth Langsford admits she feels ‘helpless’ seeing Eamonn Holmes in 'so much pain'

Ruth Langsford has admitted she feels 'helpless' seeing her husband Eamonn Holmes suffering in pain due to hiswith his back problems.

The 61-year-old TV host has suffered from three slipped discs and recently had steroid injections to help with his chronic pain.

Appearing together on a special edition of Loose Women on Wednesday alongside couple Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash, Eamonn gave viewers an update on his condition.

The conversation turned to his back pain after 39-year-old Joe asked Eamonn how he was feeling now.

Sitting next to his wife in the studio, Eamonn said: "I'm not one to complain, I don't like talking about myself, I don't like complaining, but Joe, it's three slipped discs."

"Ahhhhhhh me and Stacey have been thinking about ya. There's nothing worse than seeing you in pain because you're a jolly fella," Joe replied.

"I've actually had to come on here with a crutch, but I've got steroid injections and everything's okay and hopefully I'll be on the mend," Eamonn continued.

"What this has envisaged for me is to see how many of you suffer from chronic pain. No matter what causes it and it doesn't discriminate between whether you're young or old, or man or woman. There's so many reasons.

"And how I found out so many other people were suffering from chronic pain was I couldn't sleep at night. Lying there at night trying to get to sleep, honestly it was awful," Eamonn added.

"I'm six weeks down the road with that and i've got the injections which take away the acute pain, but I’m going to embark on a whole rehabilitation programme."

Ruth then continued the conversation: "He's alright, he's here, and it's a long road, we know that, and it’s very difficult seeing him in so much pain. You feel a bit helpless actually."

Elsewhere on the show, Ruth told her husband that she's not his "mummy".

" I’m not your mummy, I’m your wife," Ruth told him before addressing his own mother saying: "Well, Mrs Holmes I look after him as best I can."

But Eamonn bluntly replied: "Sometimes your best is not enough!"

This June, the couple will celebrate 11 years of marriage and were keen to talk about Stacey and Joe's upcoming wedding.

However, the conversation didn't exactly go to plan as Joe slipped up and revealed the exact date of their big day - which he said will be the last Sunday in July.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.
