Ruth Fahy 'really p****d off' with empty seats at Ireland's sell-out win over Ukraine

Former Ireland star Ruth Fahy is disappointed by empty seats at Ireland's thrilling 3-2 win over Ukraine at Tallaght Stadium last night - with the game advertised as a sell-out.

The FAI announced that all 8,000 tickets had been sold for the Euro 2021 qualifying clash, but the official attendance on the night was 5,328 - a record attendance for the Ireland women's national team.

The association confirmed that the tickets had been snapped up in general sale and claimed by season ticket holders - of which over 2,500 appeared to be absent.

And Fahy, acknowledging the achievement of the record-breaking crowd for the team, admitted that she wasn't happy with the empty seats and questioned the process of how tickets are sold.

"I was really pissed off just looking around at the crowd last night," Fahy said on Off The Ball AM this morning.

"Because in the last couple of days we've had this publicity about the 8,000 capacity sell-out.

"Of course it was [a record-breaking night], and that is huge in itself, but I'm left trying to get my head around how the system works.

"I saw on Twitter how not even individuals but managers of underage clubs posting that they had 20 girls who wanted to go, they asked the FAI but couldn't get them."

She added: "With a game like that where they got a huge 3 points, the next home game against Greece is next year.

"People are going to want to go and if they start publicising that as a sell-out again, people might start to become sceptical.

"So, they need to be really clear about the allocation of tickets."

Vera Pauw's charges have made it two wins on the bounce in a perfect start to qualifying, but face a tough trip on the road next month in Greece.
