Rutgers Secures Commitment From No. 2 Prospect Dylan Harper in Major Recruiting Coup

Rutgers University made a major splash on the recruitment trail on Wednesday.  Dylan Harper, the No. 2 prospect in the class of 2024 per 247Sports, is reportedly set to commit to play for the Scarlet Knights, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Wednesday.

Harper, a 6’5” point guard from Ramsey, New Jersey, attends Don Bosco High School, less than an hour drive from Rutgers’ campus.

Among the schools he was considering, it was an impressive list featuring Auburn, Duke, Indiana, and Kansas, but he opted to join the up-and-coming Scarlet Knights program.

In addition to Harper, Rutgers has also received a commitment from the class of 2024’s No. 3 prospect, 6’8” forward Airious Bailey. Also set to join the Scarlet Knights from the class of 2024 include three-star forwards Lathan Sommerville, Bryce Dortch, and Dylan Grant.

Bailey and Harper represent the highest-rated recruits to ever commit to Rutgers.

Harper, a combo guard, is the son of five-time NBA champion and former guard Ron Harper, who played 15 years in the league from 1986-2001.

Following Harper’s commitment, 247 Sports ranks Rutgers’ 2024 recruiting class as the third best in the nation, a significant improvement for Steve Pikiell and his staff. The Scarlet Knights trail No. 1 Duke, who boast commitments from four five-star recruits, including No. 1 prospect Cooper Flagg, and are also behind No. 2 Kentucky.

Per Wojnarowski, an announcement from Harper is set to come later on Wednesday.
