Russian qualifier Karatsev into Open semis

Aslan Karatsev's dream run at the Australian Open has continued through to the semi-finals. (AAP)

Russian qualifier Aslan Karatsev has become the first man in 53 years of professional tennis to reach the Australian Open semi-finals on his grand slam debut.

The world No.114 continued his fairytale run at Melbourne Park on Tuesday with a 2-6 6-4 6-1 6-2 quarter-final win over an injured Grigor Dimitrov.

Dimitrov, a former Open semi-finalist and world No.3, looked like stopping after losing the third set but valiantly - and forlornly - continued on after receiving treatment for a back issue.
