Russian Premier League joins list of postponed football competitions due to coronavirus

Another top-flight league in European football has taken the move to suspend play, with the Russia Football Union announcing the complete postponement of all competitions under their jurisdiction due to the spread of coronavirus.

This includes the Russia Premier League and all lower and regional divisions, with the postponement in effect from March 17 through to April 10.

The move to shut down Russia’s top flight leaves the Turkish Super Lig as the last remaining major competition, with games being played behind closed doors.

On Tuesday, Goztepe are due to face Rizespor in the latest fixture.

In Russia, games were played over the weekend and on Monday night, with Zenit top after 22 rounds of matches.

The national team were due to face Sweden and Moldova in the March friendlies.
