Russian multi-millionaire 'kills wife and daughter with axe' before being found dead

A Russian multimillionaire has hacked his wife and teenage daughter to death with an axe in their luxury Spanish villa before killing himself, it is reported.

Sergey Protosenya is believed to have killed wife Natalia and his 18-year-old daughter before taking his own life in the courtyard of his villa in Lloret de Mar on Spain’s Costa Brava, according to local media.

The 55-year-old had graduated in Civil Engineering at Moscow University and held the position of Deputy Chairman on the Board of Directors for natural gas company Novatek for more seven years, and has amassed a fortune of around £330million.

The Russian family was registered at the villa in Lloret de Mar but lived in France and visited the Spanish residence as their second home, reports say.

Mr Protosenya and his 53-year-old wife had two children together, the 18-year-old victim and a teenage son who was in France at the time of the alleged killing spree.

The teenage son called the Mossos d'Esquadra - Catalan police - on Tuesday when he was unable to contact any of his family members.

Officers checked on the villa and found Mr Protosenya dead in the courtyard before officers found the dead bodies of his wife and teen daughter in the house.

According to local reports, the police are working in the hypothesis that Mr Protosenya killed them both with an axe while they were sleeping.

The Protosenya family flaunted their luxurious lifestyle on social media.

They enjoyed golf and travelling all over the world, often sharing images of their apparently idyllic life.

Mr Protosenya had no previous history of abuse, however, the police suspect the killings were gender-related and are investigating the case as femicide.

The police probe is ongoing.
