Russia launches devastating missile strikes against Ukraine injuring children

Russia has once again rained hell on Ukraine with its second pre-dawn missile and artillery attack in three days.

Around 25 people, including three children, were injured in Dnipropetrovsk while one person died in Kherson.

Governor Vladimir Rogov said missiles targeted railway infrastructure and fuel depots. There were also nineteen high-rise apartment blocks, 25 private houses, six schools and nurseries and five shops were also damaged.

Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk military administration described it as a "tragic night and morning".

Yesterday, a cacophony of sobs were heard next to coffins in the eastern Ukraine city of Uman after 23 victims, including six children, were killed in Russia's deadliest attack in months on Friday.

Mykhayl Shulha, 6, cried and hugged relatives next to the coffin of his 11-year-old sister Sofia Shulha during Sunday's funeral, while others paid respects to a 17-year-old boy.

Father Fyodor Botsu said: “I live nearby. I personally knew the children, the littlest, from when they were very young, and I personally baptised them in this church.

"I’m worried about everyone since I have children and I’m a citizen of this country and have been living in this city for 15 years."

He said he prayed "that the war should end and peace should come to our homes, city and country.”

Dymytro Vynohradov, 22, a rescue worker, told the New York Times he had seen a 10-year-old boy who was killed in his pyjamas.

He added: “And I remember the little girl, with blonde hair, who looked like she could just be asleep. She had no visible injuries, but she was dead.”

Elsewhere, Ukraine's northern command said the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, which border Bryansk and Belgorod, came under fire 11 times during the night on Sunday.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a 48-year-old resident of Nikopol was killed, and two were injured, in Russian shelling, according to Govenor Serhii Lysak.

He said six multi-story buildings and six private houses were damaged, as well as several other buildings, gas pipelines, and a power line.

Ukrainian counterattacks have ousted Russian forces from some positions in the besieged eastern city of Bakhmut, but the situation remains “difficult”, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi said on Monday.

Ukraine said on Monday its forces had repelled more than 36 enemy attacks on the part of the eastern frontline that stretches from Bakhmut to Maryinka, just west of Donetsk.

Pope Francis revealed on Sunday that a secret peace “mission” in the war was underway, though he gave no details.

He said during a press conference: “I’m available to do anything. There’s a mission that’s not public that’s underway; when it’s public I’ll talk about it.

“All human gestures help. Gestures of cruelty don’t help."
