Russian fast food chain formerly known as McDonald's has new identity

The chain of restaurants that used to be McDonald's in Russia until the global brand left the country because of the war has registered a new logo and a number of potential new names.

McDonald's is one of the major global brands that has stopped trading in Russia after the country invaded Ukraine. 15 of the old restaurants are to reopen this weekend with a new logo and a new name.

Sistema PBO is the company now operating the restaurants that used to be McDonald's in Russia. "The green background of the logo symbolises the quality of products and service that our guests are accustomed to," a Sistema PBO spokesperson told TASS, the Russian state news agency.

The yellow lines are reported to be fries while the circle is a burger. Names under consideration for the restaurants include "Tot Samyi", which means "the same one" and "Svobodnaya Kassa" which means "available cash register", reports the BBC.

McDonald's has retained its trademark in Russia, meaning its brand, name and logo cannot be used by another company. It has 15 years to restart its business in the country if it wants to.
