PHUKET: A Russian man accused of leading an organised crime group has been arrested on the popular resort island on Saturday.

Pol Col Pisit Sri-on, chief of Investigation Division 2 at the Immigration Bureau, said officers arrested a man identified only as "Victor", a Russian national, at a house in Chalong district under a search warrant issued by the Phuket Provincial Court.

The suspect is wanted under an extradition warrant issued by the Criminal Court at the request of Russia, where he is accused of leading an organised crime group involved in serious criminal offences.

He was taken to Chalong police station for legal proceedings and extradition procedures, said Pol Col Pisit.
