A Russian cosmonaut has captured footage of mysterious lights over an aurora as seen from the International Space Station.
Ivan Vagner, who currently resides on the International Space Station (ISS), shared the strange footage on his Twitter this week.
He said: “Space guests, or how I filmed the new time-lapse.
“The peak of aurora borealis when passing over the Antarctic in Australia’s longitude, meaning in between them. However, in the video, you will see something else, not only the aurora.
“At 9-12 seconds, 5 objects appear flying alongside with the same distance. What do you think those are? Meteors, satellites or…?”
The strange lights are likely satellites, with the most likely culprit SpaceX’s Starlink fleet.
However, the video has raised fears among some of an alien invasion.
One user replied: “I took a cap and enhanced the light on the image, they are not five objects, they could be 1 huge massive single ufo unit if one looks at it in perspective. Kind of scary actually.”
Another added: “This is an ET craft sighting 100%.”
And one wrote: “Ivan those are UFOs! They are evenly spaced and in military formation. Great eye my friend!”
Mr Vagner has told Russia’s space agency Roscosmos about the objects, and it is now investigating the video.
Roscosmos spokesman Vladimir Ustimenko said: “It is too early to make conclusions until our Roscosmos researchers and scientists at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences tell us what they think.
“It was decided to hand over those materials to experts, who will tell us what that was in their opinion."
