Private investors have been put off by the high costs and bureaucracy that come with trying to reprivatise and restore these historic estates.
But today, one of a handful of success stories is the Serednikovo estate, which has been restored and today is used to host weddings and celebrations, with profits going to keep up restoration efforts.
