Russian bakery launches in the UK with home delivery bread service

Len and Grechka loaf ( Len and Grechka )

A Russian bakery has launched in the UK, selling its artisanal gluten-free, vegan loaves for home delivery across the country.

Len and Grechka sells more than 40 products, including buckwheat crisps and vegan desserts, in 12 high-end stores in and around Moscow.

It is making its UK debut with a nutrient-dense signature fermented buckwheat and linseed bread, which is gluten-free and made without yeast, sugar or additives.

Irish Seaweed is added instead of salt, lowering the overall sodium content of the loaf, and the product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, according to the brand.

“Every mother will relate to that feeling of trying to dish up and hunt out healthy and delicious food for your family,” said Lena Perminova, founder of the Len and Grechka brand. “It can be a struggle!

“Launching Len and Grechka in the UK is about offering British people a greater choice of bread and crisps to allow people to make better-informed decisions about the nutrients they put in their bodies.

“If we can get people to switch away from nutrient-devoid white bread to our buckwheat, that would be a beautiful thing.”

The mother of three first started the brand in 2017 along with her husband Alexander Lebedev, a former owner of The Independent.

Len and Grechka has partnered with distributor Artisan Bread Organic to sell the bread online for £5.15 per loaf.

The bread is available for home delivery during lockdown and has a shelf life of up to two weeks if stored in the fridge.
