Russia's The Voice Kids 'rigged by bots handing votes to millionaire's daughter'

Russia's The Voice Kids has been cancelled after voting was found to be rigged - giving thousands of votes to a millionaire's daughter, according to reports.

Ten-year-old Mikella Abramova, daughter of pop singer Alsou and wealthy businessman Yan Abramov, reportedly won with 56.5% of the phone-in vote.

But complaints were reportedly made and a cyber security firm, Group-IB, examined the vote finding that "external impact was made".

Sequential phone numbers sent automated votes meaning 'bots were used,' according to the BBC

A bot is an autonomous programme designed to perform repetitive tasks.

The talent show has cancelled the result of the sixth season of the competition.

Investigators found that more than 8000 texts were sent from about 300 phone numbers involved in the scam.

All numbers were made from the same operator and calls from such numbers to vote for one of the participants received more than 30,000, Group-IB said.

A statement, written in Russian, from state-owned Channel One , said: "Intermediate test results confirm that an external impact was made on the vote, which affected the outcome of the show.

"The final report of Group-IB will (be provided) by the end of May, but, already based on intermediate results, Channel One decides to cancel the result of the final of the 6th season of the project."

Channel One said it will take steps to protect the voting mechanism and ensure what has happened will not happen again.

It said it should be the first and last case of someone trying to control the audience's choice.
