Russia's Pacific Fleet has called on more than 40 vessels and around 20 aircraft to participate in a week-long series of exercises. It comes exactly 100 days since Vladimir Putin's forces launched their invasion of Ukraine.
News agencies in Russia, quoting Moscow's ministry of defence, said Russia's Pacific Fleet will conduct the operation for a week-long period. It is understood the exercises will involve more than 40 ships and 20 aircraft.
It will see "groups of ships together with naval aviation taking part in search operations for (enemy) submarines". The exercises are taking place from June 3 to 10, the Express reports.
It comes as Vladimir Putin's troops continue their three-month invasion of Ukraine. An update from Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Friday (June 3) on events in Ukraine said Russia had achieved none of its strategic objectives.
The intelligence update said: "Today marks the 100th day since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Measured against Russia's original plan, none of the strategic objectives have been achieved.
"In order for Russia to achieve any form of success will require continued huge investment of manpower and equipment and is likely to take considerable further time." The MoD said Russia was achieving "tactical success" in the Donbas region and now controls over 90% of Luhansk Oblast.
