The Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson have begun negotiating a contract extension for the star quarterback, who is entering the final year of a four-year, $87.6 million extension that he signed back in 2015.
Wilson reportedly indicated that he wants to get a new deal done before the voluntary offseason workout program begins on April 15.
Wilson wants to get the deal done in order to avoid all the speculation that occurred during the 2015 offseason – not to mention the rumors that have already begun this offseason including a much-reported rumor that Wilson wants to play in New York.
It has not been reported whether Wilson will skip the offseason voluntary workout program if he does not get an extension. He did say back in January that he will play the 2019 season without a new contract, “if that’s what I’ve got to do.”
Wilson is currently the 12th highest paid quarterback in the NFL, and rumors indicate that he could be looking for a contract to make him the highest-paid in the entire NFL, which could cost the Seahawks roughly $35 million dollars annually.
