The Seattle Seahawks have signed quarterback Russell Wilson to a four-year contract extension that includes a no-trade clause, effectively ending any speculation that he could soon be playing for the New York Giants.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the new deal is worth $157 million in total.
For much of the offseason, there had been increased speculation that Wilson not only wanted to play in New York, but could very well end up there if a deal was not reached by Monday’s deadline.
Fuel was added to the fire when Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu sent out a tweet saying Wilson wanted to end up in New York, but later walked it back, suggesting he was just toying with the media.
Whatever the case may be, any speculation that Wilson ends up in New York alongside or replacing Eli Manning can now be put to rest. The Giants, led by manager Dave Gettleman, will have to find Manning’s heir elsewhere.
