Russell Wilson, Seahawks celebrate Seattle Sounders’ MLS Cup victory

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson officially owns another championship ring. This one was earned not as a player, but as a part owner of the Seattle Sounders, who hosted the MLS Cup at CenturyLink Field on Sunday and defeated Toronto FC, 3-1, to win their second championship.

Wilson was understandably thrilled with the outcome, not just because the team won, but because he predicted a 3-1 final score prior to the game.

A handful of current and former Seahawks players and coaches took to Twitter to congratulate the MLS Cup winners.

Wilson and his wife, Ciara, are part of a minority ownership group, along with rapper Macklemore and numerous others, who announced they were buying stakes in the Sounders in August.

Wilson has long been involved in sports beyond the playing field. He and Ciara are investors in the Portland Diamond Project, a group dedicated to getting baseball in Oregon, and he was involved in trying to get the NBA back to Seattle as well.

Wilson was understandably thrilled with Sunday’s result and took to social media to share his reaction.

Wilson and the Seahawks were able to enjoy this Sounders victory because they had Sunday off, but they’ll be back in action on Monday night against the undefeated San Francisco 49ers.
