Russell Wilson, other Seahawks starters set to play on Sunday

For the first time in his professional career, quarterback Russell Wilson did not play in the first preseason game for the Seattle Seahawks. Sunday night, however, will be a different story, as he and the rest of the available starters will take the field against the Minnesota Vikings.

Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer remains undecided on how long the starters will remain in the game.

“Depends on a lot of things, how the first series goes, second series,” he told reporters Tuesday. “We don’t know yet, we haven’t talked about that yet.”

Wilson will likely only play the first series or two before handing the reins over to Paxton Lynch, Geno Smith, or J.T. Barrett, who the Seahawks just signed last Saturday. Smith is recovering after having a cyst removed from his knee, but remains hopeful that he will be ready to go versus Minnesota.

Other Seattle starters who did not play in the preseason opener include Chris Carson, Tyler Lockett, K.J. Wright, Jarran Reed, D.J. Fluker, Duane Brown, Jaron Brown, and Bradley McDougald.

The Seahawks last played the Vikings on Dec. 10, 2018, which ended in a 21-7 victory for Seattle despite Wilson throwing for just 72 yards and an interception.

Week Two’s preseason matchup between Seattle and Minnesota will kick off at 5:00 p.m. PT on Sunday, Aug. 18.
