Russell Wilson named Seahawks all-time franchise quarterback

NFL.com writer Ali Bhanpuri picked the all-time franchise quarterbacks for each team, and Russell Wilson beat out Dave Krieg and Matt Hasselbeck to be crowned Seattle’s franchise quarterback.

“Russell Wilson has been one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks since he entered the league in 2012,” Bhanpuri wrote. “His recent mega contract says as much. The former third-rounder doesn’t throw the most passes or for the most yards, but he is incredibly efficient and remarkably clutch.”

Wilson signed the biggest contract in NFL history last month, a four-year, $140 million pact through 2023.

The article also detailed Seattle’s biggest quarterback misstep, the selection of Dan McGwire at 16th overall in 1991 — the same year that Brett Favre was selected 33rd. McGwire only threw two touchdown passes and was eventually replaced by rookie Rick Mirer, who also had a disappointing career in the Emerald City.

As such, Bhanpuri labeled 1992-2000 as Seattle’s longest drought without a franchise quarterback, although Jon Kitna and Warren Moon both had solid performances for Seattle in that stretch.
