Russell Wilson is ‘the best he’s ever been’ heading into 8th year

It’s hard to imagine Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson getting even better.

After all, despite throwing considerably less than usual last season, Wilson still managed a career-high 35 touchdown passes with a career-low seven interceptions.

For good measure, Wilson also tacked on a 110.9 QB rating and a 65.6% completion rate – which rank first and second among his career highs, respectively.

Despite those accolades, coach Pete Carroll believes that the best is still yet to come from his star quarterback.

“Russ is the best he’s ever been,” Carroll commented on Wednesday. “There is no question. He’s the smartest, the furthest along, the most aware, the most in control. He had a great year last year in controlling the offense, and he’s just another step toward more of that.”

Carroll went on to praise Wilson for his conditioning over the offseason, saying, “he’s ready to play his best football” this year.

Wilson will be counted on to lead an offense that prioritizes running the football more than any other team in the league, while also losing reliable veteran Doug Baldwin in the receiving core.

Outside of Tyler Lockett, Wilson has a group of receivers that have just 27 combined NFL receptions – 26 by David Moore (who is nursing a shoulder injury) and one by Malik Turner.

With a young group of tight ends as well, Wilson may have to get creative this season if he wants to replicate last year’s success and truly be the best he’s ever been.
