Russell Wilson has the NFL’s second-highest on target throw rate this season

Russell Wilson was on a tear prior to the finger injury he suffered Week 5 that’s sidelined him ever since. While he had a rough outing against the Rams prior to getting injured, Wilson’s numbers are stupendous overall for the four games and three quarters he has played this season.

Just prior to the start of Week 9’s Sunday slate of games, Wilson leads the league in passer rating at 125.3. The next-highest is Matt Stafford, coming in at 118.0. One reason Wilson’s production has been stellar is his accuracy. According to Pro Football Reference, Wilson ranks second in the NFL in on target throws this year at 83.2%. Only Kyler Murray (84.0%) is better.

Wilson will be eligible to return from the injured reserve list next week. Pete Carroll says it will be “really close” whether he can play or not.

As encouraging as Wilson’s production is, these stats also say a lot about the level of competition within the division this year. Stafford and Murray are both rightfully considered MVP candidates and if Wilson hadn’t missed any time he might be right up there with them.

On that note, today the Cardinals are visiting the 49ers. Murray will be a game-time decision due to a sprained ankle. Meanwhile, Von Miller and the Rams host the AFC-leading Titans tonight.
