Russell Wilson expected back in time for Seahawks mock game

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson missed practice Friday afternoon to attend his grandfather’s funeral in Norfolk, Virginia.

Backups Geno Smith and Paxton Lynch took the reins for a day, but Wilson is expected back in time for the mock game Saturday at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell. Starting center Justin Britt noticed a void with Wilson’s absence.

“Maybe a little quieter on the offensive side,” Britt said after practice. “We came out here with the right mindset. We understood nothing changes. Hopefully everything goes well. He should be back. We’ll be good.”

The mock game isn’t set to kick off until 1:30 p.m. PT, giving Wilson plenty of time to return to action. Britt is looking forward to the scrimmage atmosphere.

“This is one step closer to real football,” he told reporters. “We get to go out there, the coaches sit back and let us play ball. We have to go through the situations ourselves. Like I said, it’s one step closer to live ball and we get to see where we are at.”
