Russell Wilson edges out Jared Goff as PFF’s top-graded QB in NFC West

Aside from a few poor performances down the stretch and into the postseason, Jared Goff had a very good 2018 season. He made the Pro Bowl for a second straight year, threw 32 touchdown passes and until the Los Angeles Rams’ Week 12 bye, was a legitimate MVP candidate.

Most people will remember his flop in the Super Bowl, but Goff deserves credit for continuing to develop into his third NFL season. Pro Football Focus shared its grades for the top five quarterbacks in the NFC West and Goff checked in at No. 2, only slightly behind Russell Wilson.

Goff finished with the 10th-highest grade of any quarterback in the NFL this past season including the playoffs, so it’s not as if he regressed to his rookie form. There’s no denying Wilson’s talent and the remarkable season he had on a team with the most rush attempts in the NFL.

With 35 touchdown passes and just seven interceptions on only 427 pass attempts, it’d be hard to put Wilson behind Goff, who had three fewer touchdown passes on 134 more attempts. Both quarterbacks played well in 2018 and are clearly the class of the NFC West until Jimmy Garoppolo or Josh Rosen can unseat them.
