Russell Wilson drops 1st video in ‘Seahawks Summer Camp’ series

Quarterback Russell Wilson has published the first video of his “Seahawks Summer Camp” series on his YouTube channel, which gives fans an inside look at a weekend-long informal workout session Wilson hosted for his offensive teammates in mid-July.

Episode One, titled “DK Metcalf and I are coming for you Lebron,” appropriately starts with a clip from the Seahawks’ rambunctious “Around-the-World” basketball competition, which later spawns Wilson’s good-humored boast.

“People think I can’t shoot,” Wilson said. “But I told them, ‘Listen, LeBron. We’re gonna run this thing, LeBron.’”

Although the footage shows plenty of fun times and team-bonding exercises, Wilson wants to emphasize that it’s all about the work. The first few minutes of the video show the eighth-year quarterback delivering a quietly impassioned speech to his gathered teammates, who range from seasoned veterans to just-drafted rookies.

“I wanted to have an opportunity to get to know these guys on a personal level, and for them to get to know me,” Wilson said in the video’s description.

Doing so requires a delicate balance of both work and play in order to strengthen bonds while staying productive. Quarterback Paxton Lynch cheers as he shoots hoops on a basketball arcade game then practices his footwork in cone drills just a few shots later. Metcalf grabs a ball out of the air and makes a quick turnaround to tear down the field, then later roars in triumph after a come-from-behind victory on the court.

“Developing that chemistry is really the big thing,” said former Seahawks quarterback and current RWQB Director of Operations Jake Heaps, who assisted with the camp. “Trying to talk through things, get everybody on the same page… lotta learning.”

Wilson, for one, feels highly encouraged about his entire squad. “Some of the guys have had some experience, some of the guys haven’t played in the NFL at all… I don’t think it matters.

“I think these guys are qualified.”
