Russell Wilson doesn’t envision himself playing for Giants

Earlier this offseason, rumors surfaced that Russell Wilson’s wife, Ciara, was pushing for a move to New York City. That, of course, was immediately spun into speculation about the Giants attempting to lure Wilson away from the Seattle Seahawks.

With his contract status a bit murky heading into the 2019 season, the idea of Wilson coming to New York seemed to hold some water. However, at the 2019 NFL Combine, Seahawks general manager John Schneider shot down the entire notion.

“I don’t have any other reason to believe that other than, like, website rumors and stuff like that,” Schneider told reporters in February. “We’ve been in communication with his agent, Mark (Rodgers). I’m sure we’ll continue to talk. There are some guys that are unrestricted free agents right now, so we try to work through that process.”

On Friday, after joining the New York Yankees for spring training, Wilson shared similar sentiments, saying he loves Seattle and sees himself remaining there for the duration of his career.

“The reality is a lot of guys move, but for me, I love Seattle,” Wilson said via the New York Post. “I won a Super Bowl there, been to two, won a lot of playoff games. I love being there. As far as trades or being moved, you can never be surprised. I have a clear mindset of how much I love Seattle.

“We love New York, but Seattle is home for us.”

Wilson appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon later on Friday night and reiterated that stance.

While the speculation itself was fun for all, it may be time to put those fantasies to rest. Wilson appears to be a man destined to remain in Seattle despite his love for the city of New York unless he somehow ends up playing for the Yankees full-time.
