Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson takes care of his teammates. Just ask wide receiver David Moore.
Heading into the season, Moore signed with Seattle on a one-year, $825,000 deal. That contract included a $100,000 incentive bonus for 35 receptions on the season.
Well, with under 30 seconds to go in Sunday’s Week 17 game against the 49ers, Moore was stuck at 34 receptions. In normal circumstances, Seattle would have just taken one final kneel down to run out the clock and end the game. After all, the 49ers were out of timeouts, and the Seahawks had the ball with the lead.
But Wilson had other ideas. He changed the call to a pop pass just so Moore could get that 35th reception.
The broadcast — unaware of the financial implications — didn’t know what Seattle was doing with that play instead of a kneel down. You could actually see the exact moment a confused Pete Carroll figured out what had happened as he started laughing on the sidelines.
After the game, Wilson confirmed that he was the one who changed the call to get Moore that $100,000 bonus.
