Russell Wilson and Tua Tagovailoa show off vastly different body transformations

Russell Wilson and Tua Tagovailoa are both under the spotlight entering the new NFL season - and they've taken different approaches to their off-season preparations.

The two players are very similar in profile as smaller quarterbacks, which presents them certain with difficulties on the field. Both are looking to improve on their performances last year, with Wilson failing to meet expectations and Tagovailoa plagued by concussions.

They have both made noticeable changes to their bodies in the offseason which were notable as they linked up with their respective teams for OTAs (organized team activities) - but they've gone in different directions.

Last week, Miami Dolphins fans noticed Tagovailoa was looking bulkier than before after seemingly hitting the weight room hard during the off-season.

That might have something to do with the amount of punishment that the quarterback had taken last season. With a less than optimal offensive line, Tagovailoa took some big hits from pass-rushers, suffering two scary concussions.

Tagovailoa doesn't look to make plays with his legs, preferring to stand in the pocket as a passer and waiting for his elite receivers to get open. And in bulking up, he looks to be preparing himself to be ready for the hits ahead of the new year.

For Wilson though, he has decided to take the opposite approach - looking as lean as he ever has throughout his 11 years in the league.

Wilson had by far the worst year of his career last season after being traded from the Seattle Seahawks for a huge haul, and he's looking to get back to his best this year in Denver with the Broncos.

He told reporters: "I want to be the best version of me and I'm looking forward to the work of it all and doing that. You always want to be in the best shape of your life. I'm ready for that. I feel better than ever."

Wilson added that he'd lost weight, but wouldn't say how much. The quarterback has been at his best when he's been able to make plays on the move, evading pressure and launching the ball downfield.

And he'll be hugely boosted by one of the better offensive minds in recent years joining, with Sean Payton as their new head coach and play caller.
