Russell Westbrook, P.J. Tucker add emotional Nipsey Hussle tributes

James Harden wasn’t the only member of the Houston Rockets to recognize the one-year anniversary of Nipsey Hussle’s tragic death, with Russell Westbrook and P.J. Tucker each posting their own tributes.

Los Angeles-based rapper Ermias Davidson Asghedom, professionally known as Nipsey Hussle, was gunned down on March 31, 2019, at 33 years old. Westbrook — a Los Angeles native, like Harden — considered Hussle a close friend. Tucker had also developed a tight bond with him.

“Not sure what this day was before a year ago, but I damn sure know I’ll never forget it for the rest of my days,” Tucker said with #LongLiveNip. “We miss you, bro,” added Westbrook. “RIP to the legend. Hussle Day!”

The second photo from Tucker includes a tattoo with the numbers “03 31 19” on his leg, in recognition of the date of Hussle’s death.

In the first game Westbrook played last season after Hussle’s death, he posted just the second 20-20-20 triple-double in NBA history with a line of 20 points, 21 assists, and 20 rebounds.

“20 plus 20 plus 20 … they know what that means,” Westbrook said postgame on April 2, 2019. “That’s for my bro. Rest in peace, Nipsey.”

Hussle had spoken in his music and in interviews about his affiliation as a young man with the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips,

Hussle is survived by two children and his girlfriend, Lauren London.
