Though neither All-Star guard and former NBA MVP currently plays for the Rockets, both James Harden and Russell Westbrook are stepping up for Houston in its current time of need.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner announced Monday that Westbrook, through his Why Not? Foundation, had donated $100,000 to the area’s relief fund. The news comes approximately one week after Harden’s relief efforts in the aftermath of the Texas winter storm became public,
Regarding Westbrook, here’s what Turner said:
Even though Russell is no longer playing for the Houston Rockets, his love for the city continues. I talked to him at noon today, and he indicated that this is still one of his favorite cities. I want to thank Russell Westbrook for stepping up. … This will help people repair their homes.

Burst pipes in the Houston region and throughout the state have led to catastrophic damage, in many instances. Much of the damage traces back to the failure of the state’s power grid, which made it difficult to heat homes to a sufficient level to keep interior pipes from bursting.
Westbrook was traded to the Washington Wizards in December in the swap that brought John Wall to the Rockets.
