Russell Martin has been sacked by Rangers.
The Ibrox club's latest disappointing result, a 1-1 draw away to Falkirk, proved to be the final straw despite the head coach insisting post-match that he could turn the club's fortunes around.
Rangers hierarchy had given the 39-year-old their backing despite a horrendous start to life in the Premiership, which has seen them win just once in their opening seven fixtures.
There have also been poor European results against Club Brugge, Genk and Sturm Graz.
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh flew in from the States and took in games against Hibs and Genk, but no decision was taken at that stage.
However, the Falkirk result has proved to be the tipping point as it left them 11 points behind leaders Hearts and nine behind Celtic.
Cavenagh is thought to have now signed off on the decision to sack Martin with assistant Matt Gill also to leave the club.
Martin is now officially the manager with the shortest tenure of any permanent manager in the 153-year history for Rangers when the decision is made official.
A Rangers statement confirmed: "Rangers Football Club confirms that it has parted company with Head Coach, Russell Martin.
"While all transition periods require some time, results have not met the club's expectations.
"Assistant Head Coach, Matt Gill, and First-Team Coach, Mike Williamson, will also be departing.
"Russell and his staff have worked exceptionally hard throughout their time at the club. We thank them for their efforts and wish them well for the future.
"Further updates from the club will follow in due course."
