Russell Martin provides major update on Jefte's Rangers transfer exit

Russell Martin says Jefte is likely to leave Rangers

The Rangers Review reported on Friday that the Ibrox club will bank a fee of £6million when the left-back completes his switch to Brazilian giants Palmeiras.

Jefte wasn't in the squad against Alloa this evening, and boss Martin was asked about the player pre-match: "He was in yesterday morning and things have transpired that he's not here now, but we'll have to wait and see what happens over the next couple of days," he told BBC Scotland.

"It's looking likely he will be on his way and if he goes, he goes with everyone's best wishes and if for whatever reason because this is football it doesn't happen, he'll be welcomed back.

"We wouldn't let Jefte go if we didn't have plans to make sure we're not left short there."

Martin made 10 alterations to his Rangers team this evening against Alloa.

He explained his selections before the game: "We have a lot of guys on the pitch who have trained outstandingly well over the past couple of weeks," Martin told RangersTV.

"We've gone for freshness today and opportunity. I'm excited to see who takes the opportunity. I'm confident we have a number of players who will.

"We have Mikey [Moore], and it's been frustrating for him not to be involved yet and Oscar [Cortes]. I'm really excited to see what they can do.

"We've had a busy schedule with some guys playing a lot of minutes, and who looked very tired at the end on Tuesday night.

"We have to put a team on the pitch that we think can produce a performance with high energy and be really forward thinking, and we've done that today."
