Russell Martin issues 'relentless' Rangers demand as he explains starting XI call

Russell Martin has demanded that his Rangers players be relentless against Panathinaikos.

The Ibrox boss has called on his side to show "courage and intensity" as they look to progress to the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

Rangers have a two-goal lead in Greece but Martin has urged his players to make Panathinaikos feel their tireless and aggressive approach in the second leg.

"It will be courage and intensity all the way," he said on Rangers TV ahead of the second leg.

"Brave enough to take the ball, to run really hard for each other, to want to go and press them, to make it difficult for them.

"And the intensity to be aggressive, to want the ball, to be relentless with their running.

"Everyone has to feel that; the fans, we need to feel that, the players need to feel that and the opposition need to feel that."

Martin named an unchanged side from the first leg with supersub Djeidi Gassma primed for another cameo role.

"Early on in the process, it is about consistency, it is about building relationships," Martin said, explaining his team selection.

"Gass came on and had a brilliant impact and he needs to be ready to do that again.

"He's also not had a full pre-season so the other guys have spent a bit longer on the pitch together.

"It plays a hand in the thinking; we need to have someone who can impact things if we need to change the game.

"Gass and a few others on the bench can do that."

RANGERS XI: Butland, Tavernier, Aarons, Souttar, Rothwell, Diomande, Dowell, Djiga, Raskin, Curtis, Danilo.

SUBS: Kelly, Cortes, Barron, Dessers, Bajrami, Cameron, Jefte, Gassama, Fernandez, Rice, Gentles, Hutton.
