Russell Martin dugout decision made ahead of Rangers vs Celtic

Russell Martin is set to be in the Rangers dugout for Sunday's derby match against Celtic.

The Ibrox boss is facing extreme pressure from supporters after the humiliating 6-0 defeat to Club Brugge in the Champions League.

Fans have called for the manager to be sacked after the 9-1 aggregate loss in the play-off round of the competition.

However, it's understood Martin retains the support of Ibrox chiefs and will lead the team into the match against Celtic this weekend, in the first derby meeting of the league season.

Martin's position is not thought to be under consideration in the aftermath of the Champions League defeat, according to The Rangers Review.

Supporters had chanted 'Martin, get to f***' during the loss to Brugge with a banner draped outside Ibrox after the loss. It read: "Get him out now before the seats are empty".

Asked whether he had concerns over his position as manager, Martin said: “No, no.

“I think we had such a tough task tonight. The most hurtful thing is we make it so tough for ourselves. We did last Tuesday, we did tonight.

“So much self-inflicted pain. And then, because we're not strong enough as a group yet, our response to a bit of disappointment is just so poor. So poor. So I understand the fans' frustration. I understand the disappointment.

“I understand their anger because they love this club. And they want to see a team that they're proud of. Even with 10 men, there wasn't enough to be proud about tonight."

On TNT Sports, Martin had said: "Patrick and Kevin, I've had a chat with them already, they've been amazingly supportive.

"They understand that this might take time. They knew that before I came in. They understand the club's position and where we're at.

"Now the focus is on Sunday."
