Russell Kane says 'girls can't have it both ways' amid Love Island Jake sex appeal row

When Love Island contestant Jake Cornish confessed that he didn't want "to rip her clothes off" while discussing girlfriend Liberty Poole, many viewers where shocked by the 24-year-old's lack of sexual interest in the Brummie marketing student.

However, comedian Russell Kane - who has appeared on Love Island spin-off After Sun several times - shared that he has a different outlook on the controversial Casa Amor comments.

During an exclusive chat with The Mirror, he explained that he believes that girls "can’t have it both ways" when it comes to the early stages of dating.

"It’s weird isn’t it? We live in a culture where if you told a woman you wanted to rip her clothes off, you’d be probably cancelled and put in prison, but if she fancies you, you better f***ing say it quickly otherwise you’re going to get knocked out," the 45-year-old told us as the topic of Love Island came up in conversation.

"So it's quite hard for a man to know how to play it at the moment. You go on a first date and [are asked] 'Do you find me attractive?' and [if you reply] 'Yeah i want to rip your clothes off' [they say] 'Right I'm calling the police'.

Love Island viewers were left heartbroken for 21-year-old Liberty on Thursday night, as she and fellow islanders watched a clip of 24-year-old Jake at Casa Amor telling the lads that he wasn't sure if he was sexually attracted to the blonde beauty.

However, Russell says that women need to remember that some men choose to value women for personality over appearance.

"Girls can't have it both ways," he said.

"You either want more socially evolved men that are attracted to personality first or you don't."

He continued: "So which is it? Don't be saying with one hand 'I want a man to value me for who I am' so he ignores your looks and says 'I don't want to bed you straight away, I want to get to know you' and [then say] 'Ooo now my feelings are hurt - why don't you like my t*ts?' You can't have it both ways."

Love Island viewers have been angered by Jake's treatment of the marketing student on the show (ITV)

"Do you want someone drivelling over your cleavage and bum, or do you want someone to value you first as a person before they even look at your boobs?" the stand-up comic added.

The Live at the Apollo star was talking to The Mirror ahead of the launch of his ‘Summer Unlocked’ podcast series with his 69-year-old auntie Christine when conversation turned to the latest drama in the Majorca villa.

Russell is known for his hilarious and outrageous impressions of Love Island contestants, recently going viral on Twitter with his take on Liam Reardon's attempt of poetry on a recent episode of the ITV2 dating series.

However, the award-winning comedian has steered clear of mocking female residents in the villa for a sympathetic reason.

"I haven't done Faye purely because I'm a bit cautious of making fun of girls whose emotions seem to have run out of control on telly," he told us.

"You never know what's going on in people's lives before they go on [the show] so I stay away from stuff like that."

He added that the likes of Welsh hunk Liam and the other male islanders were fair game though, saying: "But when the lads are just being d***heads, banging anything that moves, that's when I kick in."

Outside of reality TV chat, the dad-of-one was full of praise for the joy of vacationing in the UK, as the comic unpacks what it's really like to holiday across Britain on his new three-part podcast series.

Russell and wife Lindsey Cole are parents to a five-year-old daughter together and the TV star is full of advice for fellow parents embarking on a road trip with any young ones in the car.

"My top tip for parents travelling with kids is be equipped with a big bag and keep producing surprises," the Podcaster advises.

"Maybe two weeks before [travelling] go on Amazon or any online retailer and look for all the cr*p dollies and figurines that are about 12p and no one give a s**t about and buy loads of them."

"Keep producing one every 30 minutes on the journey. The kid doesn't understand the value of them."

Russell has teamed up with Nextbase for a new podcast series that discusses all aspects of UK staycations. You can listen to the first episode on Spotify now.
