Russell Kane's choice words for anyone 'emotionally affected' by Facebook outage

Russell Kane had some choice words for anyone who said they were ‘emotionally affected’ by the social media outage on Monday.

Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were down for more than seven hours with a statement from the social media giant blaming a “faulty configuration change” for the disruption.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg issued a statement on the furore, telling confused Facebook users “Sorry for the disruption today - I know how much you rely on our services to stay connected with the people you care about."

With Twitter one of few platforms still up and running, users flocked to the site - including comedian Russell Kane who uploaded a hilarious video commentary on the scandal.

“Yesterday, WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram went down,” the 45-year-old began the video, which he captioned: “Kaneing: The day social media went down”.

“If this seriously affected your social life, or your emotional state in any way, ask yourself some big questions,” Russell continued, as he called Facebook “a game on your phone for sharing fun pictures”.

“Or, if you’re really unwell, strangers who you want to look at your v*g, six pack or d**k so you can get some likes,” he fired.

“Or even worse, children. ‘I’ve got no strangers to look at my children. Oh god, my baby was born today, I needed likes as it emerged crowning from my wife’s v*g,’ because that’s normal isn’t it,” Russell joked.

“Ask yourself some questions!” he exclaimed.

Impersonating a girl affected by the outage, Russell said: “‘Oh my god, yesterday was so horrible, Instagram went down and I just sat staring at a wall like , what am I supposed to do with my life?

“‘Yesterday I was going to upload a bikini selfie where I just showed a bit of areola, and yes it would’ve got banned after two hours, but think of the likes I would’ve got for flopping my f***ing t*t out on the internet,’” he said with a manic smile on his face, while giving a thumbs up to the camera.

“‘And now that’s gone forever, oh what an empty day I had,” he said, as he concluded his impersonation.

Russell told those who were affected by the social media blackout to start reaching out to people in person, rather than hiding behind their phones.

“WhatsApp is easily replaced with a text message, or even better, imagine this, a phone call,” he suggested.

“Or even better, a visit in real life! ‘What is a visit in real life mother? It is unknown,’” he joked.

“Ask yourself some questions,” he pleaded. “Get out! You don’t need to share six pack lads on Instagram for your evening to be complete.”

His online rant was welcomed by his followers, with one praising Russell for hitting the nail on the head.

“Brilliant,” one wrote, alongside laughing face emojis, while another added: “There there are obv a lot of very lonely ppl out there, social media has caused that... isn’t that incredibly sad.”
