'Devastated' couple accuse Russel Brand of cancelling wedding after buying pub

An engaged couple have accused Russell Brand of ruining their dream to marry in a local pub

The 42-year-old teetotal comedian - who tied the knot with Laura Gallacher in 2017 following his divorce from songstress Katy Perry - recently purchased a Grade II-listed pub, named the Crown Inn, in Pishill, Oxon.

And as part of the Former Big Brother's Big Mouth presenter's takeover he has refused to take over any wedding bookings made at the venue prior to his name above the door, a couple who planned to say I do at the inn have claimed.

Stephanie Wareham and Stephen Hare, who booked in their big day at the venue for May 28 2022, say they have been left devastated.

Despite the betrothed pair being refunded their £1,400 deposit they have reportedly lost out on £1,500 deposits for other expenses, according to The Oxford Mail

Upset bride-to-be Stephanie, 29, told the paper : "'Russell Brand cancelled my wedding' is not something I ever thought I'd say. It's quite sad he has been allowed to enjoy two of his own weddings and yet he's prevented us having one.

"You'd definitely think he would have the money to compensate all the couples he's let down."

Hopeful for some sort of compensation, she added: "You’d definitely think he would have the money to compensate all the devastated couples he’s let down by cancelling their weddings as a gesture of good will so I’ll wait to hear from him."

The Mirror has contacted a representative for Russell Brand for comment.

It is claimed that the star forked out around £850,000 for the plot that has a large garden that fits up to 120 customers,

Included in the sale of the Grade II listed 16th-century coaching house is a separate barn - thought to be for events and weddings.
