Rushcliffe police issue warning after seized untaxed vehicle

Nottinghamshire Police has seized a car which was travelling on the county's roads without any road tax. The Rushcliffe South Police team shared information on Wednesday, August 17, saying that they had made the seizure.

The team said: "Another car seized for no road tax, all vehicles kept on or used on the highway must have valid tax and if they don't have tax then they must be notified off road, parked off the road and not used. If they are found on the highway police have powers to remove them on behalf of DVLA and once the process is started the vehicle will be removed."

The picture shared by the Rushcliffe South Police team shows a car being transported away following the seizure. Drivers who have their vehicles impounded for not having any tax on have to find out where their vehicle is, before paying a release fee and showing confirmation that they have since paid their road tax.

Officers in Beeston recently seized a pair of cars which they said had been driving without tax or insurance for months. The DVLA has set out its rules for people who drive an untaxed vehicle on a public road. The enforcement action is as follows: "An out of court settlement (OCS) letter issued. OCS set at £30 plus twice the outstanding vehicle tax.

"If the OCS is not paid, as a criminal offence the case may be pursued through the magistrates' court. The penalty is either £2,500 or five times the amount of tax chargeable, whichever is greater. Vehicle may be clamped and additional fees may apply."
