Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards tests positive for coronavirus

Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards has tested positive for coronavirus, her office has confirmed.

The Conservative MP, who was elected to represent Rushcliffe in the 2019 general election, received a positive test on Wednesday, October 21.

Her office says she had started experiencing symptoms a week before her test came back and "isolated immediately".

She is now recovering.

The news comes as Tier 3 talks are expected to conclude this evening (October 23).

An announcement is expected to take place next week on Monday in Parliament, while the stricter measures are anticipated to come into force on the Wednesday.

Nottinghamshire Live understands a final meeting with council leaders is to take place from 5pm today.

MPs in Nottingham have previously criticised the lack of communication as to Tier 3, after only finding out about meetings from the media.

Following this they attended a meeting this morning with Government minister Nadine Dorries, where they were briefed that an announcement will come next week.
