Rush-hour traffic chaos on London-bound A2 following crash

A two-vehicle collision caused traffic chaos this morning as major routes were shut down resulting in miles of stationary queues.

The incident occurred shortly after 6am on Tuesday on the A2 London-bound carriageway near Ebbsfleet.

The crash resulted in a full traffic hold on the carriageway near the A2260 Southfleet Road junction, severely disrupting routes between Dartford, Gravesham and central London during the peak of rush hour.

From 6.40am there were miles of stationary queues along the London-bound A2, and though the carriageway has since reopened, drivers are still experiencing delays in the area.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called at around 6am today to reports of a collision involving two vehicles on the A2 Watling Street near Ebbsfleet.

“Officers attended, and no injuries were reported.”

The A2 is a key commuter route into London, running from the capital to Dover in Kent, and even minor incidents at peak hours can quickly cascade across Dartford, Gravesend and connecting roads.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, a signalling fault between Welwyn Garden City and Finsbury Park has caused disruption on many Great Northern and Thameslink services

There were also long delays on the A13 during rush hour after a crash in Leigh in Essex.

On Monday, a police incident on the M25 caused significant delays, with all lanes stopped on the clockwise carriageway near Junction 25 for Enfield.
