Rush hour snow disruption fears as Ayrshire faces another yellow weather warning

Snow could cause chaos during rush hour tomorrow morning in Ayrshire after the Met Office issued another yellow weather warning.

The alert has been put in place by forecasters from the early hours of Monday.

And there are fears that snow, heavy rain and strong winds may have an impact on the many people trying to get to work and school.

The warning covers most of Scotland, with a weather front blowing north from the south-west, although southern Scotland and the north of England face the hardest starts to the working week.

Commuters heading to Glasgow may find their journeys impacted by snow on the higher ground stretches either side of the border between East Ayrshire and East Renfrewshire.

Rural towns and communities in the east of Ayrshire, particularly those in the hills, could also be impacted

What to expect...

  • Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers;
  • Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel;
  • Some rural communities could become cut off;
  • Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

On the trains and buses, ScotRail and Stagecoach West Scotland will provide up-to-the-minute information on their websites and Twitter feeds.

A 'be aware' note has been slapped on ferry services between the mainland and the Isle of Arran and Millport with CalMac saying the poor forecast could lead to disruption and short-notice cancellations.
