Rush-hour drama in Edinburgh as van smashes into traffic lights after horror crash with bus

Commuters heading into Edinburgh faced long delays this evening following a horror crash during rush-hour.

The incident took place on the corner of Gorgie Road and Balgreen Road shortly before 4pm, which led to a citybound lane remaining closed for a number of hours.

Shocking pictures from the scene show a Lothian Bus with a smashed windscreen and a white van that appears to have mounted the pedestrian crossing and crashed into the traffic lights during the collision.

An eye-witness told the Daily Record the collision was like a scene from "crash bandicoot", as the "van rammed up on the metal railings".

He added: "The bus driver was slumped over the steering wheel and was being treated by ambulance staff.

"It could have been worse if pedestrians were on the road at the time."

A number of bus diversions were in place while emergency services attended the incident, however all Lothian Buses services have now resumed.
