A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital after a rush-hour crash on one of Merseyside's busiest roads this morning.
The rider came off his vehicle on the A580 East Lancashire Road around 7.45am - police have confirmed.
The crash has sparked congestion for motorists heading towards Liverpool this morning.
A police spokesman confirmed the man, who was riding a Yamaha MT-125 was taken to hospital after the crash in Newton-le-Willows today.
Travel monitors INRIX said the accident happened westbound from Piele Road to A58 Liverpool Road (Pewfall Traffic Lights).
A lane is closed while recovery is being arranged.
A police spokesman told the ECHO the motorcyclist suffered knee and hip injuries.
He said: "We were called to an accident on the East Lancashire Road in Newton-le-Willows just before 7.45am.
"Fortunately it appears the motorcyclist only suffered minor injuries and he was taken to hospital to be treated for knee and hip injuries as a precaution.
"Recovery of the motorcycle has been arranged on his behalf."
