Rush-hour crash causes tailbacks on M8 in Glasgow as cops rush to scene

A person was taken to hospital following a rush-hour crash which sparked travel delays on the M8 in Glasgow today.

The collision occurred on the busy motorway near Junction 19 at around 7.15am. Multiple lanes on the westbound carriageway were restricted as a result, and police and recovery teams were called to the scene.

A photo taken at the spot, which was shared on social media by Traffic Scotland, shows vehicles grinding to a near halt, as queues build for those heading out on their early morning commute.

Drivers were warned that there would be delays. Since then, transport bosses have confirmed that the incident has been cleared and traffic is no longer at a standstill, with all lanes running smoothly as of 8am.

An individual was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary to receive treatment. Their age and the extent of their injuries is not yet known, nor is how many vehicles were involved in the smash, or the circumstances surrounding it.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of a crash involving two vehicles on the M8 westbound near junction 19 shortly after 7.10am on Monday, 17 October. One person was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary."
