UPDATE: The issue affecting services between Kirkhill and Newton has now resolved.

COMMUTERS in Glasgow are facing rush hour disruption after trains have been cancelled following an object getting “caught” on overhead electric wires.

ScotRail announced on Friday morning there would be no trains running from Newton towards Kirkhill until the object has been cleared.

Several ScotRail services have already been cancelled this morning due to the incident.

Services travelling to and from Glasgow Central, Motherwell, Dalmuir, Larkhall and Cumbernauld have all been impacted.

A spokesperson for ScotRail said in a statement “Due to an object being caught on the overhead electric wires in the Kirhill area.

“We’re not able to run trains from Newton towards Kirkhill [sic] until this is cleared.”

The issue was resolved at around 8.30am.
