A regional community's four-year battle for better internet has ended bittersweet, with almost 40 residents left out of the plans to improve connection in the area.
Wamboin, Bywong and Sutton residents formed the Wamboin Communications Action Group four years ago to lobby the NSW government to bring fibre internet to the region.
Their prayers were answered last week when the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet released a tender for the project as the first step of the $400 million Regional Digital Connectivity program.
But two roads, home to about 36 residents, were left off the coverage map - The Mountain Road and Joe Rocks Road.
However, NSW government say the map was only a guide and other areas could be included in the final plans.
The Mountain Rd resident Glen Johnston was upset when he discovered he may not benefit from the thing he had been lobbying for.
He said without fibre internet, residents in the rural area were left with failing copper or inadequate satellite systems.
A Department of Regional NSW spokeswoman said the final coverage areas would be determined by market interest and local opportunities to improve services.
"The Department of Regional NSW is aware of connectivity issues around Joe Rocks Road and The Mountain Road and these will be considered alongside all opportunities to deliver better services to the region," the spokeswoman said.
